Pashupatinath


Pashupatinath Temple:


The exact time of construction of Pashupatinath Temple is not known. Although the new building is made in the 17th century.It is considered as one of the oldest Hindu temple. It is situated on the eastern side of Kathmandu Valley on the bank of Bagmati river. It is a religious place for Hindu people. It is a temple where Lord Shiva is worshiped. There is a Shiva Linga inside the main temple. There are four doors made up of silver in the main temple. The priests in Paashupatinath are called Bhattas, who are priests of India. There are more than 2000 small temples around  Pashupatinath. People from India and Nepal mainly visit this place along with many foreigners all around the World. Shiva Ratri is the center of attraction of this place. It is a festival to celebrate the birth of Lord Shiva. More than 500 thousand people visit the temple on that specific day to celebrate the festival. Bonfire is made on various places to celebrate the festival.

The Pashupatinath is also famous for the funeral events. Aryaghat is the place where funeral is done. The dead people are burnt on Chita (pile of woods) on their funeral. People even bath at the Bagmati river, since it is considered as one of the holy river.
